.. That’s not quite how it goes! But as I have been a fan of bold colors on the eyes lately, I wanted to make an alternative version of my blue look, and I ended up with a green one! I figured that instead of just layering the green H&M shadow I have over the darker one I have used from the Maybelline 24k NUDES palette, I could use them both for one complete look.

( Please ignore the weird brown/black shift in my hair, I’m growing out my natural brown color after having it dyed jet black for a long time. )

♥ The application and result

20170626_182401

I used a sponge applicator that was dampened with some setting spray to get the most pigmentation out of the H&M shade as I could, since you could see it being very sheer in my post here. I found that the trick worked rather well, but it made the pan feel a bit chalky afterwards so I had to scrape off a small layer of

it to make it feel like normal. With the darker shade I could just use a regular make up brush to apply it because it is very pigmented and it was very easy to blend into the lighter shade without creating a harsh edge. I smoked it out up towards the top of the lid, and applied a Wet ‘n Wild eyeliner in “Dont leaf me” and then the NYX crystal liner on top of it along the lash line. I used it in the blue look too, but the glitters in it are actually green so it fits this look way better than the previous one.

I was very happy with how it turned out after applying mascara and blending out any remaining harsh outer edges. I think that without the glitter liner, this would definitely be okay for an every day casual look, but with how it looks now, I would probably just wear it for special occasions! There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing glittery eye make up every day though, it just isn’t for me. I admire those that can just go full glam whenever they feel like it.

When you buy accidental dupes

As you can see on the tubes, they’re very different in color there!

I have always loved a slightly purple lip color, and I have been using the Wet ‘n Wild Megaslicks lip gloss in “That’s My Jam” for quite a while. Recently I decided I should try a different shade just to shake things up a bit so I decided to Purchase a Nyx Butter Gloss in “Devil’s Food Cake”, expecting it to be in the brown-ish range of shades since the name is literally a type of chocolate cake.

You can see the warm tone / cool tone difference here.

I was very surprised when I first tried it though because it turns out it is almost identical to the one I was already using so there wasn’t much of a change at all! The Nyx Butter Gloss is a tiny bit warmer than the Wet ‘n Wild Megaslicks gloss but that is the only difference I can see, on the lips they look very similar. In the picture below, I have used the Wet ‘n Wild gloss on the top half and the Nyx Buter Gloss on the bottom half. I don’t know if staring at it has made me color blind but I can’t really tell them apart. The shadow on my upper lip kind of gives the color a more warm shade to make them even more similar.

Top: Wet ‘n Wild Megaslicks “That’s My Jam”. Bottom: NYX Butter Gloss “Devil’s Food Cake”.

I guess ending up with a better smelling dupe isn’t the worst thing in the world, but I admit I was feeling a bit upset because I pretty much ended up buying the same exact product for a few dollars more. I guess the scent makes up for it, plus it seems like the Nyx gloss stays on the lips for longer so I will probably end up using it more than the other. Next time I will triple check the colors before purchasing anything online, or try to find a store here that sells the brands. The latter is probably not likely to happen since Norway seems to have a preference for Maybelline, L’oreal and Max Factor, so online shopping is usually what I have to go for since there are no other options.

Have you ever ended up purchasing an accidental dupe? How did you feel about it?

Following the beauty haul I did yesterday, plus saving other products to try them for a first impressions kind of post, I decided to fuse both into one. I have been really into blue shades lately, both in objects and in make up so after purchasing multiple blue items, I decided I wanted to test them out. I rarely go for a really bold eye look like this so I felt like I was kinda out of touch when doing it, it might look a bit sloppily done, honestly.

A darker blue in the crease, a bright blue on the lid, and a green-ish blue glitter liner.

20170607_182322

I also used the glitter liner along the lower lash line but it smudged so easily.

20170607_182346

It looks a tiny bit metallic and I love it!

What I was most happy about is that the look kind of made my dull, grey eyes look a tiny bit blue too! They are always so flat and look kind of lifeless so that was cool, at least I have found somewhat of an alternative to circle lenses to alter my eye color. Also excuse the resting bitch face, it’s just my natural state.

♥ Here’s what I used

20170607_183625

  1. NYX Liquid Crystal Liner in “Jade” along the lash lines.
  2. A eye shadow packing brush for applying the darker blue shade in the crease. (nr 6.)
  3. A double ended angled brush for applying a darker eye shadow beneath the crystal liner to bring out the color.
  4. Technically an angled crease brush but it is great for blending. It’s from Eco Tools. The other brushes do not have a brand, it was a cheap set I bought on Wish.
  5. Nyx HD Banana Finishing Powder under the eyes and all over the face.
  6. Wet ‘n Wild Eye Shadow in “Lagoon”. Used in the crease.
  7. L’Oreal Color Riche Eye Color Pencil in “Ocean Blue”. Used all over the lid.

20170607_183633

8. Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin Foundation Powder in Light Beige.
9. Lush Eyes Right Mascara.
10. Mesauda 4ever Brows in “Cinnamon”.
11. Maybelline The Rock NUDES. Only used the marked shade beneath the crystal liner.

♥ And here’s my first impressions! (only including the new items)

NYX Crystal Liner in “Jade”;

It’s a clear liquid with ocean green glitter, basically. I thought it would be a colored liner with glitter chunks but it was definitely not! It did look pretty over a black shadow though and the glitter reflected the light beautifully. I did notice after a while that it made my eyes feel a tiny bit itchy so it’s probably not that great for sensitive eyes like my own.

L’Oreal Color Riche Eye Color Pencil in “Ocean Blue”;

This was extremely pigmented! I only had to lightly rub it all over my lid because it’s very creamy and easy to apply and it gave such a vivid color payoff! It is a bit hard to remove since it sticks to your lids so much but that just ensures that it stays on the whole day. This is a great product and I’m curious about the other shades in the same line.

Wet ‘n Wild Eye Shadow in “Lagoon”;

As expected, this darker blue shadow was somewhat less pigmented than the L’Oreal pencil. It was great for using in the crease to create more depth though and it blended out well. I probably wouldn’t use it on its own since it doesn’t have quite the right shade of blue that I’m looking for but I will continue using it as a crease color.

Mesauda 4ever Brows in “Cinnamon”;

The color wasn’t as much of a mismatch as I thought it would be, but it was waaay too hard. It hurt a lot when trying to use it, and at one time the tip of it broke off, something that sucks since it’s a micro pencil and they don’t come with too much product in the first place. I’m not sure if I would continue using this.

So that was it! Have you ever rocked blue eye shadow or any other bold colors?

My Summer Beauty Wishlist

Lise —  May 31, 2017 — 4 Comments

It always feels weird to make wishlists based on the season of the year, but some products just sound more tempting and more useful in the summer. Cooling products, for example, are great to use during the summer and I would definitely never use them during winter because it’s cold enough here already. I always feel like using lip products and brighter colors in the summer too, I suppose that is a norm for most people. But for me who usually only wear black and don’t care much for daily make up, it is strange indeed! I have incorporated more pink and blue into both my wardrobe and my make up and there’s a few more things I would love to purchase before summer is over. If I can ever convince myself to do so is a different story, but a girl can always dream! Is there anything you want for the summer? Here’s my somewhat short beauty wishlist at least!

  • Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipsticks in Dark Wine & Dark Pink Frost

1

  • NYX Liquid Crystal Liner Jade & Wet n Wild Megaslicks Lip Gloss Strawberry Ice

2

  • Max Factor Wild Shadow Pots Turqoise Fury & Brazen Charcoal

3
