January 2018 goals

Continue exercising. I’ve been doing good in December, going to the gym regularly so I hope I will be able to keep it up going into the new year. 2018 is going to be my best year when it comes to exercise and taking care of myself.

Ditch the new years resolutions. I never keep them, I only get upset when I fail so I figure it is better to just ditch them overall so I can do things in my own time. Facing failure when it’s not necessary really drains you of energy too so I feel like that is an even better argument for ditching them.

Only spend money on necessities. Maybe treat myself on special occasions when I feel like deserve something extra. I have not been good at doing a low-buy period, mostly because it was Christmas and I spent so much money on gifts. But I  hope that it will get better in January or February.

Get back into reading. I was reading way too much in October and November and in December I didn’t really touch a book at all. I was feeling so drained and needed a break but I really hope I will get back into it ASAP, I miss sitting down to read in the evenings.

Decide on what to study. I really want to go back to uni and I found a bachelor degree for international communication and interpretation/translation and that is right up my alley. Hoping I will end up applying for that. I just need to really decide what I want to do with my life. The bachelor degree also includes one obligatory year spent in a foreign country (England in my case) so that is a huge plus.

Try new things. I rarely do that, I just stick to what I know and never try anything new. I don’t know what I would do but I want to stop saying no if I’m asked to do something new, within reasonable boundaries of course.

Spend money on experiences. Along with a low-buy period, I would rather spend money on experiences than things. I really want to travel more, or just get to experience new places, new food and new people. I haven’t traveled in years now and I’m eager to do so.

What are your goals for January? Are you doing New years resolutions?

Top places I’d like to travel

Lise —  October 17, 2017 — 10 Comments

These are all places I would really like to go. Some I have visited before, some are completely new to me. The one thing stopping me is having literally no money, but they are definite goals in the future when it comes to travel.

  1. Mongolia. I really want to go see the Golden Eagle hunters, I want to sleep in a yurt, I want to travel through their amazing landscape and experience traditional Mongolian food.
  2. Russia. There are so many places there I would like to visit, including Moscow, the glass beach of Vladivostok, Chelyabinks, Saint Petersburg and so on. Taking the Transsiberian railroad could bring me to Vladivostok at least.
  3. Orkney Islands. I want to go to most the Islands surrounding the United Kingdom. It’s also cool that the largest city is called Kirkwall, the same as the city in Dragon Age 2.
  4. Scotland. I’ve been there before but I haven’t seen too much of it. Our plane landed in Edinburgh and then we drove up to Aviemore to stay there for a few days. Then back to Edinburgh. I want to go to Loch Ness, to Glasgow, to Aberdeen and everywhere else. I also want to experience New Years Eve there again, we danced, drank, had a generally good time.
  5. Ireland. I’ve heard so many good things about Dublin and I really want to go there to see for myself what it is all about.
  6. Lithuania. My cousin often travels to Vilnius and it looks like such a pretty city! I always love looking at her pictures of the city and listen to her stories and I really want to go there.
  7. Latvia. Riga sounds like a great city and I really want to explore it. All of the pictures I’ve seen shows that his has some amazing architecture.
  8. Poland. One of my exes is from Poland and he told me so many amazing stories. I’ve been to Poland before, but only to Gdansk and Krakow. I really want to explore the rest of it.

Where would you like to go?

Places I Would Like To Visit #5

Kirkwall and other locations, Orkney Islands

After I played through Dragon Age 2, which was set in a fictional city called Kirkwall, I was so certain that i had heard the name before, and surely enough, Kirkwall does exist in real life! It may not look the same as the city in the video game, but it intrigued me still. I know my father has visited the city when he was a sailor and I think I have inherited some of his wanderlust. As you can see in the pictures below, there is quite the difference between the fictional harbor and the real one.

Whereas the fictional has large statues that are chained together, the real one has a cozy feel to it and I really want to travel there to experience the Islands themselves and the city. Another landmark i would like to see there is the Ring of Brodgar. It is part of a henge and is a Neolithic (New Stone Age) stone circle. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. A henge does not necessarily have to look like Stonehenge, which most of us know of, but it can be a certain area containing stone circles like the one pictured below.

kirkwall

I have always loved the British nature and landmarks, and I have always wondered why the henges were there and what they were used for. Technically, archaeologists wouldn’t count this landmark as a henge since it lacks some vital parts, like being encircled by a bank of earth and rocks.

Orkney, in general, contains of over 70 islands, and around 20 of th2007_flag_of_orkney-svgem are inhabited. Once upon a time, during the 800’s, it was annexed by my ancestors, the Norse people, but Scotland took it back around 600 years later. The Orkney flag is very similar to the Norwegian flag, which consists of red, white and blue, whereas the Orkney flag is red, yellow and blue. As you can see in the picture to the right here, the only real difference from the Norwegian flag is the yellow part.

So basically, one of my goals in life is to travel there to explore as many of the islands as i can! Do you have anywhere you would like to travel?

Places i would like to visit #4

Ulaanbataar, Mongolia.

Ulaanbaatar is the capital of Mongolia. It’s in the Tuul River valley, bordering the Bogd Khan Uul National Park. Originally a nomadic Buddhist center, it became a permanent site in the 18th century. Soviet control in the 20th century led to a religious purge. Soviet-era buildings, museums within surviving monasteries, and a vibrant conjunction of traditional and 21st-century lifestyles typify the modern city.

Ever since i saw a documentary about Mongolia’s Golden Eagle hunters when i was younger, i really wanted to visit the country. Genghis Khan was also my favorite person to learn about in history classes too, everything he did either baffled me or made me curious to find out why. As i got older my dream faded a bit but now it is sparking up again after i played a game called Cradle. It is set in a remote location in Mongolia and i just felt a sense of familiarity as i played it. It’s weird how these things work.

What i really want to do is to visit the countryside, try to sleep in a Ger and just enjoy nature. A Ger (or Yurt as it is also called) is a portable, round tent covered with felts and skins. There are Ger districts in Ulaanbaatar too but i want to go far out. In this day and age it might be weird to dream of a life without a lot of our modern commodities but i guess i’m weird like that!

It would also be really cool to actually see a Golden Eagle hunter in action, going up to the Altai mountains. The birds are so majestic and it’s amazing how they can train them like they do. Trusting it to not attack a young girl or boy is a great feat. Just look at the size of that bird compared to her!

Day 14. Tips for a new blogger

I’ll make this more into an advice column, haha! Recycling my advice from previous award posts i have been nominated in.

You do you, never feel pressured to do something you don’t want to. Instead of worrying about what others think, find something that you’re comfortable with, something that makes you happy. If it’s not making you happy, it will ruin your motivation, and you’re going to sit there asking yourself ‘why am i doing this again?’. Don’t let anything discourage you.Ultimately, you are the source for your own happiness.

Do not get hung up on the numbers. You might get a lot of visits and likes one day, then fewer the next. That is just how the algorithms work, people are on at certain times, on certain days. Write for yourself, write what makes you happy. Don’t change just because you feel like others expect you to, keep doing you and the people who like that will come around. Don’t blog to be ‘famous’, blog because it’s fun. Take use of the community! Comment on blogs, like posts, interact with others, you’ll make great acquaintances!

Day 15. Who’s in your playlist

In my playlist you can find artists like Sia, Broods, Hot as Sun, Zedd, Mansionair, Blue Foundation, Ghost Society, Stephen, Lawless, Baron Bane, Meg Myers, Vaults, Digital Daggers and many, many more! I discover new and great singers and bands through spotify’s ‘Discover Weekly’ playlist.

Day 16. Things you are looking forward to.

  • Christmas!
  • The autumn weather, i love driving to work in the rain (as long as its not really storming).
  • The November paycheck because its only half taxes.
  • Being able to save up enough to live by myself.
  • Finishing my bachelor’s degree in 2018.

Day 17. Pet peeves (also known as things that makes me irrationally angry)

  • When someone chews really loudly, or chews right next to me.
  • When someone just cant seem to put anything back where it belongs.
  • When someone doesn’t use their indicator in a busy intersection and just fucks everything up.
  • When someone blames everything your pet does at you, even when you’re not at home. (for example if they break something, according to my mother, everything my cat does wrong is my fault. Even if it’s just something as simple as stealing some food from the table when i’m not around.)
  • When someone don’t wash their hands before cooking, or after doing something highly unhygienic.
  • When someone coughs without turning away when they cook. (its so horrible, makes me cringe and not want to eat the food.)

I could probably go on forever but i feel myself getting agitated just by writing about it, haha! What are your pet peeves?
