February 2018 goals

Was there any goals I didn’t achieve from the month before? Yes, there was a few. I haven’t really done updates on my goals before but here goes. This list will be a mix of updates on old goals, and adding in some new goals for this month.

Exercise more. Did I? No, not really. With my mom being on holiday, I had to help my dad with his work and delivering packages and all that jazz so I have barely had time for anything at all this month. Hoping to succeed on that in February. Might be getting a work out buddy so that could help with actually getting to the gym and being motivated.

Get back into reading. As with working out, I didn’t really have time for reading either. I usually read in the evenings but my days have been so long so I pretty much fell asleep very soon after getting in bed. It’s great that I got to sleep but I would have also liked to getting some reading done. Hoping I’ll be able to do more of that in February. I really want to re-read the Metro series, so I suppose that will be my starting point.

Apply for a bachelor’s program. I was studying English literature and language but it just didn’t feel right, the subjects weren’t really my thing, and the second year was mostly about Norwegian grammar for some reason, so I wanted to try something new. I found one for International communication and translation and that’s more up my alley. I really hope I will be accepted to study that because I really need to get a degree in something. It’s also in a city hours away from home so that will be nice to get away from everything.

Use up leftovers more often. I tend to forget about leftovers both in the freezer and in the fridge and I need to break that habit. It’s better for the environment, and for my wallet if I’m able to use it all up instead of having it go bad and then throwing it out afterwards.

Get better at planning. I haven’t been good at planning at all over the past few months and that definitely needs to change. I need to think ahead, save, plan and utilize everything I have to make my life better and less stressful.

And that’s pretty much it. I’m sure there are others things I want to achieve too but I can’t put them down in words at this moment. What are your goals for this month?

January 2018 goals

Continue exercising. I’ve been doing good in December, going to the gym regularly so I hope I will be able to keep it up going into the new year. 2018 is going to be my best year when it comes to exercise and taking care of myself.

Ditch the new years resolutions. I never keep them, I only get upset when I fail so I figure it is better to just ditch them overall so I can do things in my own time. Facing failure when it’s not necessary really drains you of energy too so I feel like that is an even better argument for ditching them.

Only spend money on necessities. Maybe treat myself on special occasions when I feel like deserve something extra. I have not been good at doing a low-buy period, mostly because it was Christmas and I spent so much money on gifts. But I  hope that it will get better in January or February.

Get back into reading. I was reading way too much in October and November and in December I didn’t really touch a book at all. I was feeling so drained and needed a break but I really hope I will get back into it ASAP, I miss sitting down to read in the evenings.

Decide on what to study. I really want to go back to uni and I found a bachelor degree for international communication and interpretation/translation and that is right up my alley. Hoping I will end up applying for that. I just need to really decide what I want to do with my life. The bachelor degree also includes one obligatory year spent in a foreign country (England in my case) so that is a huge plus.

Try new things. I rarely do that, I just stick to what I know and never try anything new. I don’t know what I would do but I want to stop saying no if I’m asked to do something new, within reasonable boundaries of course.

Spend money on experiences. Along with a low-buy period, I would rather spend money on experiences than things. I really want to travel more, or just get to experience new places, new food and new people. I haven’t traveled in years now and I’m eager to do so.

What are your goals for January? Are you doing New years resolutions?

On being motivated

Lise —  November 3, 2017 — 16 Comments

Today I attended one, or well, technically two lectures about motivation. I’m in a work experience program to find a job suitable for the leg injury I have. My work consultant keeps signing me up for different jobs and lectures and I’m experiencing so much compared to what I used to. My anxiety has also gotten a lot better because I make myself attend everything and socialize with people.

Today was two different lectures by two different lecturers, one being a somewhat elderly Swedish man called Mats Peterson. He’s experienced with nutrition and working with athletes and helping people better their life through food, sleep and exercise. He was a very engaging lecturer, bringing his personal experience to the table in a humorous way, using sarcasm to get us to understand and I thought it was really good. It left me feeling motivated for eating the right things, for doing gentle exercises just to stay mobile and to make sure I get enough sleep every night. He also talked about hormones, about serotonin, melatonin and the other hormones that affect you on a daily basis. If you ever get the chance to listen to his lectures (either in Norway or Sweden), I would definitely recommend it. He’s not a guy who shuns everything that isn’t good but he emphasizes just how well things can be.

The other lecture was by a guy named Kjetil Kristoffersen. He mostly spoke about his experiences and how no one is entitled to tell you that you cannot achieve what you want in life. He spoke about how life had went against him and how he was always scared to take a risk and never got rewarded. Then eventually he thought like “fuck it, i’ll just do it” and he eventually succeeded. It was really good motivation and it also encouraged you to not just settle for what you have but try to achieve more if it is possible.

He reminded me a lot of Shia Labeouf when he spoke, really energetic and trying to get us all to be as engaged as he was. He didn’t use humor as much as the other guy, but it honestly wouldn’t be as good if he did, it needed a more serious tone.

I feel like I have a more positive mindset now, at least for a little while. But anything is better than nothing, right? Do you have anything you do to try to motivate yourself?

It’s always so difficult to think of things to put on a list like this! I guess I’ll just do general facts and hope no one knows them already, hah.

  1. I was born on August 21st, 1991 as the middle child in my family.
  2. I was in a major accident in August in 1999, where I was injured for life. I almost lost my leg, had to learn to walk again and I’m full of scars and my left leg is somewhat disfigured but functional.
  3. I have had cats for as long as I can remember. My current cats are 10, 12 and 15 years old. The two youngest are half brothers (They have the same mother. I don’t know if they know, but they are stuck together like glue, never leaving each other’s side.)
  4. When I was six, our parents brought us to Disney World in Florida. I can’t remember much from it, but I remember the house we rented and tasting alligators in Gatorland. It’s weird how memory works.
  5. When I graduated from high school, I had one of the highest grades.. Then college came around, my teacher hated me and I got the lowest grades for pretty much anything I handed in.
  6. I used to binge drink alcohol all the time.. Never said no to a party. Then, some years ago I realized I hated how alcohol made me feel, so I stopped drinking all together.
  7. Autumn is my favorite season. I love that it gets darker, because that means people with decorate with lights outside. I love listening to the rain all the time, and I won’t have to feel bad about spending my time inside.. I also don’t have to keep my curtains shut to keep the sun out anymore.
  8. I’m somewhat addicted to collecting succulents. Sadly, a couple of them has perished but the ones I have left thrive more than ever. I suppose I need to invest in a few more soon.
  9. I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I still dont… I kind of want to work in a library, work with translating texts or work in an archive.. Not too keen on working with people so those are the best options.
  10. I really don’t like talking about myself. My anxiety always makes me feel like nothing I say is worth listening to so I tend to only listen in conversations, not really participating with anything new.

Is there anything people don’t know about you?

Some new school supplies

Lise —  August 17, 2016 — 8 Comments

So, University has finally started again for me, I’m on my second year of my Bachelor’s degree and I’m already starting to feel the pressure. I did however splurge a bit and bought myself some absolutely cute school supplies in an effort to calm my nerves. Apart from having to spend a massive amount on the text books, i did buy a pen set that was more expensive than one of them. How crazy is that? Textbooks are already way too expensive, luckily I’m receiving some financial aid from the school in addition to my paycheck so it gives me a bit more of a financial freedom.

Here’s the cutest little notebooks i bought, i love that the circles are all metallic and shiny, and the paper inside is so soft and wonderful to write on. I love new books, notebooks and the like. I might be weird but i feel like getting myself something cute to use kind of boosts my motivation when it comes to studying. It’s always nice to have a varied pen set too, then you can made your notes all colorful and coordinated.
