Archives For maybelline

I noticed it had been a while since I last did a Top 5 (June 30th, wow!), so I figured it was time for one! I did a post on my favorite lip products last summer (probably one earlier this year too), and it has changed a bit since then so a new one was in order! Feel free to share your favorite products in the comments, I’d really like to read about them ♥

  1. Maybelline – Galactic Mauve LipstickLook at how little I have left of it! I rarely ever finish a lipstick, but I have been using this one almost every day since I purchased it. Luckily I’m still as in love with it now as I was back then. I have two other varieties of mauve shades I have to finish before I’m going to repurchase this, but it will definitely be repurchased in the future.

  2. NYX – Devil’s Food Cake Butter Gloss This is honestly a gloss that I probably never will tire of. It smells so sweet, so good and it feels really comfortable on the lips. It’s not a sticky gloss, it doesn’t last forever but I honestly don’t mind reapplying it. Also, can you tell that I love purple? 😉 If I could, I would wear purple lipsticks/glosses at all times. I initially expected this one to be very dark, since the bottle is exactly that, but it’s not bad at all even though it’s lighter than what I thought.

  3. Makeup Revolution – Lip Euphoria Liquid Lipstick from Ultimate Reds KitOh hey, something that is not purple! This one is more of a dusty rose. It doesn’t dry down matte, but it’s not exactly shiny either. It looks really pretty and it has a fairly good longevity, considering the lip kit it comes in costs around £3. I love using this when I need a more “natural” look.

  4. Australian Gold – 30 spf Lip BalmThis is one of the best smelling lip balms I have owned, apart from any smelling like vanilla. This smells like a minty orange drink and it’s great. I also love that it has spf, I have used this frequently over the summer, even though we haven’t really had any sunny weather. ( I do wear spf during winter too, don’t worry!)

  5. Blistex – Lip Relief CreamA true lifesaver when you have really chapped lips or cold sores. This guy cools down, moisturizes, nourishes, tingles and makes your lips feel so good! It kinda tastes like tooth paste, but I can get past that since it works so well! A little goes a long way with this, you’d end up with white lips if you apply too much.. I speak from experience!

♥ Maybelline – Galactic Mauve

This is one of Maybelline’s many beautiful Mauve shades ( I currently own three of them). I wrote a post about it a while ago and you can find it if you click here.

♥ L’Oreal Le Khol Midnight Black Eyeliner

A wonderfully pigmented eyeliner. It doesn’t smudge much and it stays in place all day! I’m really, really happy with how it looks on my eyes. When it’s sharpened it can even draw a beautiful, thin and sharp winged liner.

♥ Makeup Revolution Baked Vivid Highlighter in Peach Lights

This is a beautiful baked highlighter! It looks very natural at first application but it is definitely possible to build it up to being a blinding highlight. It has a peach sheen to it and I love wearing it because it makes me look all glowy and nice.

♥ “Cinder” by Marissa Meyer

You can find my book recommendation here, and it’s also mentioned in this post. This quickly turned out to be the beginning of a love for the whole series. I talk more about it in my “What I read in July” post. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy/YA novels.

♥ PVRIS – Only love (acoustic)

I’m so happy that I was introduced to this band, been listening every day! I think I could just pick any song from their White Noise album to feature here.

♥ PVRIS – Half

So that was my absolute favorites for the month of July! What have you loved this month?

Galactic Mauve on the left, Magic Mauve on the right.

Recently I wrote a post about my new favorite lipstick, Galactic Mauve from Maybelline, and then I noticed that they had a similar shade called Magic Mauve and I decided I wanted to check it out. The name first makes me think of Magic Mike, but I doubt he would ever wear a pink-ish purple lipstick.

The first difference I can tell between them is that Galactic is cool toned while Magic is warm toned. Galactic has a tiny bit more shimmer but Magic is still really beautiful on the lips, it’s just a tiny bit more muted. You can see in the swatches below that Galactic on the bottom reflects more light than Magic does on the top there.

I still think I prefer Galactic to Magic, mainly because the pink-ish hue doesn’t really go too well with my bright red hair right now, but maybe it will be my new favorite once my hair goes back to being brown, or black, whichever I choose to go with when I get tired of maintaining the red again..

Magic Mauve is a great shade, and a great lipstick though, it doesn’t have too strong of a scent and it feels very light weight and creamy on the lips. I found this one to not last as long on the lips as the Galactic Mauve, but it might just be because the color is a little bit brighter so it would fade faster. Not sure if that makes sense to you, but it does to me at least.

As you can see in the pictures above, the shades are really similar when worn together! The camera kinda made the shades look a bit strange but it’s honestly not far off from what they look like in real life. (Actually, in hindsight.. I think it was my ceiling light making them look different). Ah well!

Want to know a secret? I love wearing two lipsticks at once, one on the top and another on the bottom lip. Ombres are too advanced for me so doing it like that is perfect for me.

I was just browsing Maybelline’s website when I stumbled upon this beautiful shade in their Color Sensational line! I’m always intrigued whenever I see the world “Galactic” used anywhere so I thought I had to go to the Maybelline display at my local grocery store to check it out. Luckily they had a few of this shade in stock and I was immediately smitten by it.

It is a beautiful mauve shade with a whole bunch of shimmer. It’s not easy to see the shimmer in these pictures but in natural light it is very noticeable! You can kinda see in the swatches that the left part is lighter because the shimmer reflects the direct sunlight. I was kind of expecting real sparkles since it was named “Galactic Mauve” and it made me think of outer space, but a shimmer is acceptable too! They also have a slightly darker version of this without all the shimmer, it’s called “Magic Mauve” and it is really pretty too.

It is a very creamy lipstick so it doesn’t have the same longevity as liquid or matte lipsticks but I found it to be very decent. It feels great on the lips, not too sticky or anything so I don’t mind reapplying it throughout the day. It does transfer onto cups or bottles so that is something to keep in mind with this lipstick. It has somewhat of a perfume-y scent but I honestly don’t mind it at all because it’s not really noticeable when it’s on your lips.

One thing I noticed when applying this was that it is very similar to the natural color my lips have! It’s just a tad bit more purple, and my lips doesn’t naturally have any shimmer. (duh!) In the picture below I have wiped the left side clean and on the right I still have the lipstick on, very similar, right? I’m happy that it is because that just means that this could definitely be an every day kind of lipstick, even with the shimmer since it’s so close to my natural color.

It has been a long time since I last fell for a lipstick, so it was very nice to see that this one definitely worked for me! Have you discovered any new lip products that you love lately?

After I dyed my hair red and left in a “blonde” piece (honestly it has a golden sheen to it, and it makes me look like a parrot at times), I wanted to experiment a bit with the gold shade from the Maybelline 24k nudes palette. I honestly feel like anyone could look good with some gold on their eyes, especially deeper skin tones, so I guess it would be universally flattering? I honestly wish I had a bit more melanin just so I wouldn’t be so pale all of the time.

Anyways, the eye shadows are all from the 24k palette and I truly feel like I get to use a lot of the shades in there for a lot of different looks so I’m feeling more and more that it was worth purchasing. I’m really happy that this palette wasn’t kind of a dud like how the other nudes palettes have been so far. (Sponsor me, Maybelline? Just kidding!) I used the gold shade, a more coppery shade and a deep brown. I wanted to do a black smokey eye, but I don’t think my skin tone would suit that with me being so awfully pale, the contrast would be too strong. and I would probably struggle with blending it out.

When it was time to put on a liner, I realized I had thrown out the last little stump of the black liner that I had, so I had to improvise. I found an angled liner brush and used my IsaDora Hypo-allergenic mascara to line my eyes. It was a tiny bit flaky and dried really fast so it took some work to get an acceptable line. It wasn’t the best formula to use as a liner so I wouldn’t really recommend to anyone to use it as such. I tried using a black shadow and some setting spray at first but it didn’t really show up at all so it was my last resort.

Overall I was pretty happy with how it turned out, though I could have made the outer edge look a little bit better, maybe more of an oval shape instead of trying to make it look like a wing.

Have you experimented with any make up looks lately?

♥ What I used

One: Maybelline 24k NUDES palette. The lightest shade all over the lid, the gold shade in the inner third of the lid, the coppery shade in the middle of the lid and the dark brown on the outer third/smokey wing.

Two: Mesauda Milano 4Ever Brows Micro Pencil in “Cinnamon”.

Three: IsaDora Hypo-Allergenic Mascara in “Black”.

Four: A small eye shadow brush

Five: An Eco Tools fluffy crease brush

Six: An Eco Tools fluffy blending brush (technically a “large eye brush”)

Seven: An angled eye liner brush. This also works great for brows!
