Archives For lush

Weekend highlights? I don’t know why I added this in because I never do anything special over the weekends. I do pretty much the same as always apart from going to work experience schedule.s This weekend I went for a walk, I cleaned the house, I did laundry, I took out the trash.. cuddled with the cats.. Read books.. worked out. Also been scouring the Lush websites, there wasn’t much from the Halloween and Christmas ranges that interested me, just mainly these few things:

Sugar plum fairy lip scrub, Mystic knot wrap and Bûche de noël fresh cleanser.

3 things out of what? 40? It’s crazy how uninterested I have become in many of their things. Plus I don’t have a bath tub so none of the bath products are relevant to me. Oh well, I guess this went from being a weekends highlight post to ranting about Lush. I guess it will be my way to compensate for not having much to talk about.

I did find something interesting over the weekend though, a compilation video of 2000’s songs. Been ages since I last listened to any of them. It’s funny to see how much I remember of the lyrics too.

What have you done over the weekend?

♥ Lush None Of Your Beeswax Lip Balm

This was another birthday gift from the lovely Storm. It’s a solid lip balm that reacts to your body heat when you use your fingers to apply it. It smells like lemons, vanilla and mandarin and it feels so moisturizing and nice on the lips. It’s the first lush lip balm I have tried and I’m really impressed!

♥ Batiste Dry Shampoo “Sassy & Daring – Wild”

This was a birthday gift from my sister and I have always wanted to try it. I have sworn by the cherry scented one for a while but boy, I love this one so much! It has kind of a “masculine” scent, not really sure exactly what it is, but it’s great. It goes really well with my Smuggler’s soul perfume too, which is very woodsy.

♥ Maybelline Mauve Mania Lipstick

When I thought I couldn’t have any more mauve lipsticks, I found another one from Maybelline’s collection. This one is just a standard mauve lipstick, but it’s still pretty. It has a way brighter color than what Galactic and Magic mauve has so it’s more of a ‘special occasion’ lipstick for me than an everyday lipstick.

♥ RWBY

RWBY is an american anime web series created by Monty Oum (Rest in peace) and it’s produced by Rooster Teeth. It follows the stories of Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long and their fights against moral dilemmas, monsters and other evil beings. The show has been running since 2013 and has become quite a hit in both the western world and in Japan and it has now a Japanese dub and is recognized as a true anime over there, as opposed to the “cartoon” image it has elsewhere. I recently started over from the beginning and it’s a very emotional experience. I’d recommend this for anyone who’s interested in Anime and want something new to watch.

What have you been loving in September?

If you have a post about it, feel free to leave a link below.

This blog post is part of Lisa’s “Endless blog challenge”. She posts new topics every Sunday, often following a theme, and you can use as many or as few of them as you want that week as inspiration for new blog posts. Head over to her latest challenge post for this weeks topics.

I have some things that I use in different ways than what they were meant for..

One being my hair straightener / flat iron. I use it to curl my hair sometimes, a lot of people do actually so it’s not like its anything new and exciting, but it’s a start! I just can’t ever be bothered to purchase a proper curling iron because I know I wont ever use it and it would just feel like a waste of money to invest in it.

The next thing would be the sunburst kind of decoration on my wall. It is a metal thing for warm cooking pots to rest on but it was so pretty so I hung it up on my wall instead for decoration. It might have something to with it being golden, I might have an obsession with that… But I just couldn’t help it. It looks very nice where it hangs over one of my bookshelves.

Wine bottle as water bottle for my plants. I found a cherry wine bottle left behind by my dad that had a screw on cap and I thought it would be perfect to keep water in for my succulents. Alternatively, one could punch a few holes in the cap to be able to gently sprinkle water when you turn the bottle upside down. I used to have one like that but it got pulled out of my window by the wind and smashed down in the tiles beneath my window.

Dusting powder for my sheets. Dusting powder is originally made to be use on your skin to absorb moisture and make it feel silky soft. A lot of people use it as a body perfume, others to avoid chafing in certain areas. I use it in my sheets to make my bed smell good. Dusting powder is pretty much just glorified corn starch in a bottle. My absolute favorites comes from Lush, and are called “Silky underwear” and “Mr. Sandman”. One smells a bit like jasmine and the other smells like muted lavender, it really helps me sleep.

A wall hanging for my music box. The container I keep it in that is mounted on the wall was originally a box for a gift set of artisan fruit jams for those people who are very invested in the crackers and cheese lifestyle and wanted to add in a bit of jam to the mix. The box belonged to my grandmother and I drilled a hole in it to hang it up and use it as a display for my Howl’s moving castle music box to avoid it from becoming dusty. It works quite well. It has a glass lid that I can slide up and down to take it out from the box.

I’m sure that there are plenty of other things that I use in other way than their intended purpose, but these were the ones I could think of from the top of my mind.

Do you have anything you use in other ways that what they were made for?

Jelly on your face…?

Seems like it! The Jelly face masks were revealed earlier this year and they are now to be found in Lush stores everywhere, and they’re really interesting. I had this pot sent to me by the lovely Storm and I really fell in love with it and how fun it is.

Get back the skin you myth’d with toning witch hazel and antioxidant green tea. Why not give it a Troy?

This face mask contains ingredients like apple juice, green tea, witch hazel, Sicilian lemon and Brazilian orange oils, and neroli oil. All of these will help brighten your complexion and work on any trouble spots you might have. All of the ingredients are ethically sourced and they are all vegan so it’s safe to use for pretty much anyone. The ingredients used have exfoliating, rejuvenating and moisturizing properties so they will be a treat for your skin.

What is made kind of obvious by the name, is that they have somewhat of a jelly texture to them. It honestly feels like Lush accidentally combined a shower jelly with one of the fresh face masks one day and just rolled with it. It woDSC_0202rks, although it is a bit lumpy when you use it. You’re supposed to either rub the jelly directly onto your face, or break off a piece and rub it between your hands to form more of a paste before applying it to your face. I chose the latter,  and it kind of looks and feels like the Mask of Magnaminty from Lush.

It is not as tingly or cooling, but it does feel good on the skin, and you can really feel the witch hazel work on any impurities you might have. I had a very recent breakout around my nose and boy did it attack that area. My skin felt a lot better afterwards though, so for me it was definitely worth the pain as it stopped the spot from growing bigger.

The mask is to be left on for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. I used warm water and a washcloth and it was fairly easy to remove, it just took a couple of wipes here and there to get it all off. I didn’t feel any immediate miracles happening with my skin but as time went on it felt better and better. My skin felt really rejuvenated the morning after and I am definitely going to use this again, at least enough times to use up everything in the pot it came in. The pot is part of the recycling program Lush has too so you can keep it and trade it in for a free fresh face mask when you have five empty ones. Unfortuately the jelly mask doesn’t count as a fresh face mask so you can’t exchange the pots for it.

All in all, I would give this mask 8/10, it would have been a full score if I had felt any immediate effects.

Have you tried a jelly mask before? What did you think of it?

What is on my vanity?

July 24, 2017 — 18 Comments

I have always been fascinated with how others do things, and I always love reading posts about storage and whatnot. I did one of these posts back in December, you can click here for the link to that. A lot has changed since then, I used up most of my Lush products, decided it was too expensive to repurchase any of them and ended up finding a lot of affordable skin care. Now my mission is to find cruelty free replacements for a lot of it so I can stop feeling bad about using the products that I do. ( I also keep a lot of stuff in the bathroom, I just prefer to keep my make up here since the lighting is better).

Top shelf: My Lush scents, the Smuggler’s Soul body spray and the 10ml perfume dropper bottle. Also contains two decorative gold bottles and a silver buddha figurine.

Main space: Going from left to right there is a flower crown, my hair brush, a pair of scissors, a headband sort of thing to keep my hair out of my face, my mirror with my choker necklaces draped over it, paper tissues, a box with cotton pads, a toner spray, dry shampoo, hair gel, a victoria’s secret body spray, the makeup revolution storage chest, a deodorant, a body lotion, a night cream from Korres, the L’Oreal Hydra Genius Aloe Water, Simple micellar water, L’Oreal age perfect toner and a Garnier micellar water.

IMAG0201

The storage chest: I used to keep my make up in other containers but this storage chest is perfect. The labels are a bit hard to read but I have basically been able to fit everything into most of these drawers. A few are still empty but that doesn’t matter, I’ll find something to fill them up with eventually.

Junk drawer: Not really junk, but that’s usually what people call their miscellaneous drawer. Whenever there’s a sale I tend to buy a lot of skincare and keep it in my stash for later use. I also stock up on cotton pads, q-tips, toothpaste, conditioners, make up bags and whatnot. I currently have three make up bags in my drawer and I haven’t even used two of them yet.

So that is what I currently keep on my vanity! I could probably have reorganized it all but I think it works out fine the way it is. If I moved the storage chest to the left, I couldn’t keep anything on top of it because the mirror gets moved around a lot and that would suck. What do you keep on your vanity? (If you have one, of course).
