Archives For halloween

I’m not sure if I would have enough to write if I just chose one holiday, so I will do more than one! Let’s start out with the one coming up first.

  • Dressing up! This is obviously the favorite thing for most people. I love being able to dress up as pretty much whatever I want, it’s nice to take a break from my regular appearance.
  • The social aspect. People come together, drink, go trick or treating, eat candy and generally have a good time.
  • The spookiness. I don’t really enjoy being scared, but I do like an eerie vibe. I guess I like creepy things more than downright scary things.

  • Buying presents. I loooove buying presents for people. I love watching people open presents. The looks on their faces just fills me with so much joy.
  • Baking. I love to bake, and making your own Christmas yummies feels extra special. I especially enjoy baking gingerbread cookies.
  • Decorating. Decorating trees, decorating my home, anything that can be decorated will be. It just makes my home so cozy.
  • Cooking. Christmas food is the best food. It’s so savory and you feel full for ages afterwards. I always get so sleepy after Christmas dinner because I’m so full and my body just shuts down in the best kind of way.
  • Decorating the Christmas tree.
  • Seeing family that you probably don’t see as often. Christmas really is a time for family to come together.
  • Opening presents. I’m sure everyone loves doing that! I hate receiving them, but I love opening them, it’s really weird.

New years

  • Fireworks. They’re just so beautiful to look at. Could definitely be less noisy, my cats are always freaking out but, yeah, pretty.
  • Spending time with loved ones while counting down until midnight. It’s funny that we do, because nothing feels different once the clock strikes twelve.
  • The new years dinner. People always plan these extravagant dinner parties and I love it so much.

  • Decorating Easter eggs. Painting, dyeing, gluing stuff onto them. Anything is really fun, especially if you have someone younger to do it with. Nothing wrong with painting them by yourself though!
  • Setting up and planning Easter egg hunts for the younger ones! There’s no kids left in my family, they all grew up so can’t do that much anymore, I really miss it!
  • Watching old cartoons on the tv. During most holidays they send old special episodes, or create shows just for that holiday. It’s nice to have something to wake up to every day.

There, that’s some of my favorite things about the holidays. Someone is probably going to say that I missed Thanksgiving and other holidays, but they are not really a thing here in Norway.  What is your favorite things about the holidays?

What I’m currently reading

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

Wuthering Heights is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine’s father. After Mr Earnshaw’s death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine’s brother Hindley and wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries. The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature.

When The Sleeper Wakes by HG Wells

Graham, an 1890s radical pamphleteer who is eagerly awaiting the twentieth century and all the advances it will bring, is stricken with insomnia. Finally resorting to medication, he instantly falls into a deep sleep that lasts two hundred years. Upon waking in the twenty-second century to a strange and nightmarish place, he slowly discovers he is master of the world, revered by an adoring populace who consider him their leader. Terrified, he escapes from his chamber seeking solace—only to realize that not everyone adores him, some even wish to harm him.

The Messenger by Douglas Niles

Exiled in disgrace to the harsh land called the Icereach, Kerrick, a Silvanesti elf, encounters a group of barbarian villagers that is making a determined stand against the encroachment of the remnants of a powerful ogre empire that is out to seize control of the frozen world.

The Celtic Twilight: Faerie and Folklore by W.B Yeats

Best known for his poetry, William Butler Yeats (1865–1939) was also a dedicated exponent of Irish folklore. Yeats took a particular interest in the tales’ mythic and magical roots. The Celtic Twilight ventures into the eerie and puckish world of fairies, ghosts, and spirits. “This handful of dreams,” as the author referred to it, first appeared in 1893, and its title refers to the pre-dawn hours, when the Druids performed their rituals. It consists of stories recounted to the poet by his friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. Yeats’ faithful transcription of their narratives includes his own visionary experiences, appended to the storytellers’ words as a form of commentary.

The Body Snatcher by Robert Louis Stevenson

A young man studying medicine in Edinburgh is asked by his professor to be responsible for receiving the cadavers to be dissected by the school’s students. Though he knows many are stolen from graves, he keeps his silence. Then one night he recognizes one of the cadavers as the victim of murder. Instead of turning in the culprit, he allows himself to be drawn deeper into the gruesome intrigue. But justice has the last laugh when the evidence of the man’s crimes – evidence he thought long since dissected and disposed of – mysteriously resurfaces to his everlasting horror.

Day 25. Dream job

My dream job would generally be working with texts. Writing, translations, anything like that really! Or just something i could do from home without having to interact with too many actual humans every day. It’s not that i hate people but i have severe anxiety issues so staying away is generally the best choice.

Day 26. Ways to win your heart

Oh boy, that’s a tricky one! I mean, as long as you’re kinda quirky and is passionate about your interests, i’m pretty much on board. There isn’t anything really “special” i can think about, i’m not really a romantic person at all. It would also help if you were a cute female, haha.

Day 27. Bedtime Outfit

My room isn’t properly isolated and it’s very cold outside at night, so i tend to just sleep in my very oversized Hard Rock Cafe Amsterdam zip up jacket and some sweatpants.

Day 28. Manicure of the day

Nothing! I have to have clean and short nails because of work so i dont get to experiment much with manicures and whatnot.

Day 29. Halloween inspiration

I didn’t want to just find a bunch of random pictures that weren’t mine, so here, have one thing that always put me in a Halloween mood!

Day 30. A day in the life

Well, on sunday the 30th i worked most of the day, got home, had dinner, worked on school stuff, nommed on almonds and drank lemonade (that i repeated today on the 31st, as you can probably see on the date on my computer in the picture). And apart from that i didn’t really do anything too exciting, i mean, laundry is boring as heck. In the evening i just played some Skyrim before going to bed.

Day 31. Halloween

All dressed up and nowhere to go, literally! Plans got cancelled so i’ll probably just spend Halloween working on Uni coursework as always, being an adult is so exciting! (not)

How are you spending your Halloween?

All previous posts

I was scrolling through the reader when i found this post on Kristyn‘s blog and i was like, “hey, i should do this!” October is my favorite month, so a challenge related to that would be awesome!  I won’t do daily posts, because i don’t want to clutter anyone’s feed, and i wouldn’t have the time to sit down and write posts that often, but i’m roughly doing five days per post. Feel free to join in too!

Day 1. October goals.

Every month seem to pass by so quickly that i’m never sure if i’m able to reach my goals or not. But as always, i aim to work out more, eat better, focus more on my studies, save more money and all that jazz! My goals rarely change, i’m not too fond of changes in the first place so that’s probably why. Forming good habits is like my favorite thing to do.

Day 2. Outfit of the day.

I bought this over sized sweater at a thrift shop for next to nothing. I love the buttons on the shoulder.. I just wear this with some comfortable black leggings.

Day 3. Story behind the blog name

I have actually written about this before in one of the award posts i was nominated in! I can’t remember which one though, so i guess it’s time to explain again. It was just out of laziness that i ended up with Lushtivity as my blogs name, i wanted something to do with creativity, i also wanted something to do with Lush.. So i just put them together and ended up with that. Not the most exciting story, really!

Day 4. Who inspires you?

As of today, i don’t have any living person who inspires me. The one person that used to inspire me, my grandfather, is six feet under, but i still get inspired by the memories of him. He was such a hardworking and honest man and he taught me many good lessons and values to hold in life.

Day 5. 5 things about you

  1. I’m a really sore loser. I hate losing, i hate when things don’t go my way or the way they’re supposed to. Especially in video games.
  2. I can’t stand listening to anyone eat. It sends shivers down my spine and makes me feel sick to my stomach.
  3. A few years back, i wasn’t able to listen to any female singers and i have no idea why.
  4. I tend to over-analyze the situations i’m in, and what people say. This is both a blessing and a curse, especially if i’m wrong.
  5. I used to feel like i was ‘addicted’ to the internet, now it’s rather a treat than an addiction.

So that was the first five days of the blogging challenge, feel free to do it yourself too! Let me know so i can check out your posts.
