The Aqua Mask

Description: A new generation of face mask combining Pomegranate and Glycerin in a fresh jelly texture. It hydrates to quench skin’s thirst and it rehydrates skin in just 10 minutes, leaving it replumped and silky-smooth. No Parabens.
Immediately; skin looks bouncy, fresher.
Long-lasting effectiveness; skin feels hydrated, suppler and softer.

Directions: Apply on clean and dry skin. Avoid eye and lip areas. Leave on for 10 minutes, then massage in the excess product until completely absorbed or remove excess with a cotton pad.

The initial application of this mask feels slightly cooling, maybe because I’ve stored it in the bathroom cabinet which is a cool place in general. I can feel a slight stinging to the skin, and it doesn’t feel as if it is immediately hydrating the skin but not drying it either. After the ten minutes was up, my skin hadn’t absorbed a lot of it. I was also reminded about the Garnier Moisture+ day cream that I used to use.. It kinda feels like they just put it in a sachet and are trying to pass it off as a mask because it made my skin feel the exact same way, slightly greasy and not hydrated in the way I like.

Would I buy this one again? No. I did not enjoy the day cream and I did not enjoy this mask.

The Juicy Peel Mask

Description: A new generation of face mask combining Lemon Extract and Smoothing Active Glycolic Acid in a jelly texture that illuminates for smooth, radiant skin with a healthy glow. No Parabens.
Immediately; skin looks more refined, luminous, with a healthy glow.
Long-lasting effectiveness; skin tone appears more radiant, smoother and softer.

Directions: Apply on clean and dry skin. Avoid eye and lip areas. Leave on for 5 minutes, then rinse.

I had some issues with this one at first, because in the English directions it said to leave it on for 10 minutes and in the Norwegian one it said 5 minutes, so I opted for the middle ground, 7 and a half because I couldn’t be bothered to check their website. But it was originally supposed to only be on for 5 minutes, tops.

The consistency for this mask was kind of like a lemon jelly, it was almost completely clear and had a slight lemon scent. It was fairly easy to apply, though with it being clear it wasn’t too easy to see where I had applied it or not until I layered some more on the skin. I kept it on the skin for about 7 minutes, since I couldn’t seem to figure out how long I was supposed to have it on and after five minutes it started to sting a bit. My skin didn’t turn too red though, I was expecting it to be worse after I rinsed it off.

This mask really took care of the oil on my face and made my skin feel super smooth – for a day – the day after my skin was twice as oily as normal so it felt like it had just postponed everything for a day.. So because of that, I didn’t like it too much. A temporary fix is not worth it if the aftermath is twice as bad.

Would I repurchase this? No.

The Volcano Mask

Description: A new generation of face mask combining Volcanic rock and Clay in a self-heating clay texture that minimises the appearance of pores for pure, smooth skin. No Parabens.
Immediately: skin appears purified and looks smoother and less shiny.
Long-lasting effectiveness: pores look unclogged and seem less visible. Skin appears refreshed.

Directions: Apply on clean and dry skin. Avoid eye and lip areas. Leave on for 3 minutes, then rinse.

A 3 minute mask? I didn’t really believe a mask could do anything in just three minutes. This one was for pore minimizing so I only applied it on my cheeks, my nose and my chin because I don’t really have too noticeable pores anywhere else. This mask was really, really thick and it felt as if I had found clay outside and just rubbed it on my skin. I thought it would have the same consistency as the L’Oreal clay masks but this was so much thicker.

It says to be self heating but I didn’t notice that in the short three minutes that it was on my face. It was kind of a pain to remove because it is so thick, but I could see that it had reduced my pores a little bit in that time. It also removed all traces of oil on my face but the same happened the day after as with the juicy peel mask, my skin didn’t like it and produced twice as much oil again.

I would use this again just to reduce pores for special occasions but I wouldn’t want to upset my skin this much just for nothing.

Would I repurchase this? Maybe.

Have you tried any of these masks?

My skin care routine changes rather frequently, and I alternate between products, I go for the ‘lazy’ option quite often and sometimes I use face masks often.. My skin doesn’t like it if I use the same products for an extended period of time so alternating between products that I know work for me is the best solution.

On lazy days I use only Micellar water, a toner and moisturizer, but on regular days I use a proper cleanser first before doing the rest of the steps, sometimes adding in time for a mask too.

Here’s everything I use currently.

Simple Micellar Water, Neutral Skin Tonic, L’Oreal Hydra Genius Aloe Water

I honestly spend more money on skincare than I do on make up, and it has pretty much always been that way. I really hate how oily my skin gets so I’m glad that I have skincare products to prevent and help aid that. I’ve tried to not use cleansers and all but it just feels so disgusting since I get a lot of oil on my nose, forehead and chin. So yeah, if I had to choose between make up and skincare, I would definitely choose skincare.

What would you choose if you had to pick one of the two?

What is on my vanity?

July 24, 2017 — 18 Comments

I have always been fascinated with how others do things, and I always love reading posts about storage and whatnot. I did one of these posts back in December, you can click here for the link to that. A lot has changed since then, I used up most of my Lush products, decided it was too expensive to repurchase any of them and ended up finding a lot of affordable skin care. Now my mission is to find cruelty free replacements for a lot of it so I can stop feeling bad about using the products that I do. ( I also keep a lot of stuff in the bathroom, I just prefer to keep my make up here since the lighting is better).

Top shelf: My Lush scents, the Smuggler’s Soul body spray and the 10ml perfume dropper bottle. Also contains two decorative gold bottles and a silver buddha figurine.

Main space: Going from left to right there is a flower crown, my hair brush, a pair of scissors, a headband sort of thing to keep my hair out of my face, my mirror with my choker necklaces draped over it, paper tissues, a box with cotton pads, a toner spray, dry shampoo, hair gel, a victoria’s secret body spray, the makeup revolution storage chest, a deodorant, a body lotion, a night cream from Korres, the L’Oreal Hydra Genius Aloe Water, Simple micellar water, L’Oreal age perfect toner and a Garnier micellar water.

The storage chest: I used to keep my make up in other containers but this storage chest is perfect. The labels are a bit hard to read but I have basically been able to fit everything into most of these drawers. A few are still empty but that doesn’t matter, I’ll find something to fill them up with eventually.

Junk drawer: Not really junk, but that’s usually what people call their miscellaneous drawer. Whenever there’s a sale I tend to buy a lot of skincare and keep it in my stash for later use. I also stock up on cotton pads, q-tips, toothpaste, conditioners, make up bags and whatnot. I currently have three make up bags in my drawer and I haven’t even used two of them yet.

So that is what I currently keep on my vanity! I could probably have reorganized it all but I think it works out fine the way it is. If I moved the storage chest to the left, I couldn’t keep anything on top of it because the mirror gets moved around a lot and that would suck. What do you keep on your vanity? (If you have one, of course).

  1. Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water – Garnier’s “regular” micellar water that works like a dream. It has no scent, removes even stubborn, waterproof mascara and it makes my skin feel really clean! Maybe not as soft as it’s oil-infused brother mentioned further down, but it’s still nice! I just finished a bottle, and I will definitely repurchase once I’ve used the other ones in my stash.
  2. Simple Micellar Cleansing Water – This is another good micellar water! It has a bit of a weird scent to it but it does its job and leaves my skin feeling good! It’s also the cheapest option I have in drugstores here so that is nice.
  3. Lush Tea Tree Water Toner – When I first purchased this I used it for all over the face, but I found that it works better as kind of a spot treatment. I use it on days when my skin needs a bit of TLC or if I have breakouts that need attention. It’s really soothing on irritated skin and I love using it. It is a bit pricey, but when I use so little at a time it lasts for quite a while.
  4. L’Oreal Age Perfect Toner – A toner made for mature skin (but it works really well for me too!), and it is enriched with vitamin C! It makes my skin feel rejuvenated and fresh and I enjoy it a lot.
  5. Garnier Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water – This one is like an enhanced version of the regular Micellar water, containing nourishing oils that helps remove make up and any dirt from your face. It always leaves my face feeling soft and clean. I also think its fun to just shake the bottle up and watch as the oil and water separates again.

What would be on your top 5?

Disclaimer; Norway’s Glossybox might differ a bit from, for example, the american ones. We are very particular about products and everything apparently needs to be made for Nordic hair and skin and whatnot. Luckily we get products to try that we don’t necessarily see in stores here all the time. I’ve heard about a couple of the brands, mainly from watching other Glossybox unboxing videos. I also pay for the boxes out of my own pocket, so this post is not sponsored in any way.

Decembers theme is The Pink Diamond Box, and it is really, really pretty! It also came in a pink outer casing so that was cool. They write on the card that it is made to empower and celebrate all of the strong individuals who make Glossybox possible.

♥ HOLLISTER – Wave For Her

20161222_143345

This is a perfume sample, also the first one i have gotten in any box. I’m slightly allergic to perfume and i can’t really use anything but body mists so i will not be using this one. It smells a bit floral and nice though. I’d see this as a summer scent rather than a winter scent.

Not adding in any value here since perfume samples are free 90% of the time.

♥ NAILBUDDYS – Nail Polish Silver

20161222_143414

This is a pretty silver glittery nail polish. It is not full sized, but rather a travel sized so it’s perfect to bring with you in your bag. I really like the color, it matches most of my choker necklaces.

This is a travel size, the original is worth 90 NOK / ~$10.

♥ HAIRON – De-Tangling Brush

20161222_143454

This is an egg shaped brush that is said to fit perfectly in your hand and that will de-tangle your hair without causing any strain on it. I rarely believe in everything that these brushes promise, I’m curious to see what it does though.

This is a full sized product and it is worth 80 NOK / ~$9.

♥ GARNIER – Moistube Bomb Tissue Mask

20161222_143522

Tissue, or sheet masks as they are also called, are super popular but most of them are from various Asian brands. It’s exciting to finally get to try a more ‘local’ one.

This is a full sized product and it is worth 29 NOK / ~$3

♥ MDMFLOW – Semi Matte Lipstick ‘Bossy’

20161222_143604

This is as it says, a semi matte, creamy lipstick. It comes in a brown nude color and i think it looks really nice. Most of the nude lipsticks i have are rather orange so having a more neutral color is nice.

This is a full sized product and it is worth 199 NOK / ~$23

I think this box has had the lowest value so far, but i do like the products i received so i cannot really complain. It just kind of sucks that a perfume sample counts as a whole item and not as a bonus. The total value, if the nail polish was full sized, would have been 398 NOK / ~$45, which is about twice the value of the box price. So it’s not bad, just a lower value than other months!
