Archives For dusting powder

This blog post is part of Lisa’s “Endless blog challenge”. She posts new topics every Sunday, often following a theme, and you can use as many or as few of them as you want that week as inspiration for new blog posts. Head over to her latest challenge post for this weeks topics.

I have some things that I use in different ways than what they were meant for..

One being my hair straightener / flat iron. I use it to curl my hair sometimes, a lot of people do actually so it’s not like its anything new and exciting, but it’s a start! I just can’t ever be bothered to purchase a proper curling iron because I know I wont ever use it and it would just feel like a waste of money to invest in it.

The next thing would be the sunburst kind of decoration on my wall. It is a metal thing for warm cooking pots to rest on but it was so pretty so I hung it up on my wall instead for decoration. It might have something to with it being golden, I might have an obsession with that… But I just couldn’t help it. It looks very nice where it hangs over one of my bookshelves.

Wine bottle as water bottle for my plants. I found a cherry wine bottle left behind by my dad that had a screw on cap and I thought it would be perfect to keep water in for my succulents. Alternatively, one could punch a few holes in the cap to be able to gently sprinkle water when you turn the bottle upside down. I used to have one like that but it got pulled out of my window by the wind and smashed down in the tiles beneath my window.

Dusting powder for my sheets. Dusting powder is originally made to be use on your skin to absorb moisture and make it feel silky soft. A lot of people use it as a body perfume, others to avoid chafing in certain areas. I use it in my sheets to make my bed smell good. Dusting powder is pretty much just glorified corn starch in a bottle. My absolute favorites comes from Lush, and are called “Silky underwear” and “Mr. Sandman”. One smells a bit like jasmine and the other smells like muted lavender, it really helps me sleep.

A wall hanging for my music box. The container I keep it in that is mounted on the wall was originally a box for a gift set of artisan fruit jams for those people who are very invested in the crackers and cheese lifestyle and wanted to add in a bit of jam to the mix. The box belonged to my grandmother and I drilled a hole in it to hang it up and use it as a display for my Howl’s moving castle music box to avoid it from becoming dusty. It works quite well. It has a glass lid that I can slide up and down to take it out from the box.

I’m sure that there are plenty of other things that I use in other way than their intended purpose, but these were the ones I could think of from the top of my mind.

Do you have anything you use in other ways that what they were made for?

Another year has passed, and as we enter 2017 it’s time to look back at the absolutely best products I tried over the past year. I’m sure i could include a lot more but these are the ones I could not leave out. Some I have bought a new one of, some I treasure to make them last forever, some i have purchased, some i have received in beauty box subscriptions.

One container with hair and face sprays, including a Sunsilk conditioner spray, a make up setting spray, Batiste dry shampoo that smells like cherries and the Tea tree toner water from Lush. Lastly it contains my hairbrush, a pair of scissors and a comb.

The other container contains my Maybelline NUDES palettes (Normal nudes, blushed nudes and rock nudes), my foundation powders and assorted face masks.

Here comes the messy part! In the back i have all of my pencils (both eyeliners and eyebrow pencils), eyebrow razors, my bb cream, a lip tint and two nail polishes. The large left compartment holds my single eye shadows, blotting papers, Lush Jackie Oates foundation, a fluffy brush for my powders, a pencil sharpener and a sponge i use to dab on my foundation/bb cream with. The small compartments on the right holds lipsticks, a cream to help against infections in wounds (i have no idea why its there…), eyebrow pomade crayon, a small mascara, lip balm, a sample for a brightening serum, tweezers, a nail clipper and Lush eyes bright mascara.

Cotton wool pads, a foot lotion, a pretty jar with Fairy dust dusting powder (the bottle cap broke so i found an alternative container), a body lotion and a Skinfood rice mask that i have yet to try.

So that’s what i have on my vanity as of right now! Have you done a post like this before? Feel free to leave a link below, i would love to see it.

Summer edition! These are my must haves, not saying you need to have them yourself!

  1. Silky underwear dusting powder
This is my absolute favorite product for summer. It helps keeping your skin dry and feeling smooth and it can help against chafing or the dreaded chub rub. I also use it in between applying deodorant since it helps with sucking up the moisture.
  2. Hawaiian Tropic Satin protection sun lotion
I usually only use a generic spray on sun lotion but after i got to try this in Glossybox, i fell in love. Not only does it smell heavenly but it provides moisture for the skin and a decent amount of sun protection. I have yet to get burned and i think i owe it all to this one.
  3. Tea tree toner water
Tea tree oil has antiseptic properties, and is great for treating acne and excessive oil forming on the skin. The toner water i use if from Lush and it has a cooling effect. I usually clean my face with it in the morning using a cotton pad, then spray some on my face every time i need a quick refreshing.
  4. A SPF lip balm
My favorite SPF lip balm is from Calypso and has 30 SPF. It leaves my lips feeling hydrated and protected. I go through one or two balms every summer because i love using it so often.
  5. Air humidifier
The air in my room tends to get really dry, both in the summer and during winter so having a humidifier is great. It really makes the air quality and humidity much better and my skin feels less dry and irritated.
