Thank you so much to Michala for tagging me in this. You can read her post about this fun tag by clicking on this link here. It will take you directly to it! I would also recommend checking out her other posts, they’re definitely worth a read! Her blog is one of those I have followed the longest and I never get tired of anything she writes about.

1. Do you remember your first makeup item?
I think it was one of those cheap lip gloss palettes with frosty-ass shades. My favorite was a silver frosted lip gloss. That or lip smacker lip balms if they count.

2. Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications?
Uh, preferably one that feels like nothing. Lush’s Eyes Right mascara was pretty good for me, I just think it’s very expensive. My eyes are super sensitive so pretty much any mascara makes them itchy, except for that one.

3. What kind of coverage do you prefer from a foundation?
I don’t really care for foundations in general. I prefer like medium coverage BB creams. I don’t like cancelling out everything on my skin. My spots make me who I am. If I do use foundations, it’s a powder foundation with medium coverage.

4. Favourite high end brand?
I’ve never really used anything from a high end brand so I can’t say anything about that.

5. What cosmetics brands have you always wanted to try but still haven’t?
Hmm, probably Soap & Glory? It’s not easily available here in Norway. Hoping I’ll be able to order some from the UK one day. Alternatively try it if and when I move there because of school in a couple of years .

6. Favourite drugstore brand?
I don’t know if I have an absolute favorite brand, I like to find bits and pieces here and there that are cruelty free. I used to think of Maybelline as my favorite brand, but not anymore. I’m sure I’ll find one particular brand to love some day.

7. Do you wear false lashes?
No! I have worn them before but my eyes are too sensitive. I’m also very sensitive to latex, and a lot of glues contains that. Overall a bad thing to put on my eyes.

8. Is there any kind of makeup you can’t leave the house without?
I can go out completely bare faced without any issues, but I would prefer to at least put on my brows.

9. What is your most cherished beauty product?
Hmm, probably my hair oil. I love having shiny, frizz free hair. Without it, it would basically be a crows nest.

10. How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there, or get lots of goodies at once?
I don’t shop for make up often. I pick up what I run out of, or if I see something new that I have to have, I buy it when I can afford it.

11. Do you have a “beauty budget” or do you spend freely?
I don’t have a budget, I only buy when it’s absolutely necessary. If you asked me a couple of years ago, I would have said I spent my money freely.

12. Do you utilize coupons, reward cards and sales when you shop for cosmetics?
There’s not really a coupon culture here in Norway, but I do use online codes whenever I can find them.

13. What type of product do you buy the most of?
Eyebrow pencils. I think.. That or toners. Or shampoo and conditioners? I’m not really sure. I also buy a lot of lip balms because I tend to misplace them pretty fast.

14. Is there a brand you absolutely can’t stand?
Any brand that uses super perfume-y scents in their products. Yuck.

15. Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics, like parabens or sulfates?
I try to avoid aluminium, some octane thing that Lisa discovered, and other things that are generally harmful for you.

16. Do you have a favourite place to shop for makeup?
I use two Norwegian websites called Vita.no and Blivakker.no, and also the UK site Tambeauty.com (they’re behind Makeup Revolution and similar brands). I don’t buy a lot in person because it’s so expensive here.

17. Do you like trying new skin care products or do you keep a certain routine?
I usually try one new thing at a time so that I will know for sure what it is if it messes up my skin. So I keep a certain routine but I also replace things now and then.

18. Favourite bath and body brand?
The “I love…” branding? Don’t know if they’re cruelty free or not. Used to be OGX but they’re not cruelty free anymore.

19. If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose?
Maybe Makeup Revolution?? They’re super cheap so that would be the wisest choice for my wallet.

20. What brand do you think has the best packaging?
I think Kat Von D’s products have great packaging, I’ve never tried any of her products though!

21. Which celebrity always have great makeup?
Most of them? I mean, most, if not all have make up artists so they always look good.

22. Do you belong to any online makeup communities?
Not really?

23. 5 Favourite beauty gurus:
Does Safiya Nygaard count? She’s not technically a beauty guru but she makes a lot of videos about mixing her make up and whatnot. I also watch RachhLoves. I love her energy and how excited she is about everything.

24. Do you like multi-functional products like lip and cheek stains?
They can be handy, but I never use them. If something is for the lips it usually feels really sticky and weird on the cheeks, I don’t like that!

25. Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
Sometimes. I fuck up the thickness of my liners a lot. Then I usually end up with panda eyes, wipe it off and start over.

26. Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?
I used to, then I ran out and realized I couldn’t  be bothered to buy a new one.

27. How many hair products do you use on a typical day?
When I shower, I use shampoo, conditioner, then a hair oil while it’s still damp. So three. And when I don’t have time to shower I use dry shampoo.

28. What do you apply first, concealer or foundation?
I don’t use concealer, so just foundation. Powder foundation.

29. Would you ever consider taking makeup classes?
Maybe! I mean, I know enough to get me through the day now, but if there was like a costume make up or special fx make up class, I would take it! I don’t really need to know how to do make up professionally, with as little as I usually wear it’s not necessary.

30. What do you love about makeup?
I love that it’s versatile and can be used by anyone who wishes to do so. And that it gives you the chance to “be someone else” for a day, or just a “better” version of yourself. I don’t really believe it makes you better because you’re fine the way you are, but it’s fun to wear.

I tag:

Anyone who wishes to do this one.

What makes me excited for Christmas

Christmas lights everywhere

Image result for christmas lights gif

I love this time of the year mainly because of the lights. It’s so nice to drive around after dark and look at how everyone has decorated their houses or trees or bushes. I really wish having lights outside would be a tradition all year round because it is absolutely stunning to look at. I think maybe I would like it less if I did see it constantly though, I wouldn’t have time to really appreciate it for what it is.

Shopping for presents

I love buying presents for people. I may not be the best at finding the right present for everyone but I will try my darndest to do so. If I can’t find something super personal I will just go for something people generally like to be on the safe side. It could also be fun to buy something completely different so that they can get the chance to try something new without having to spend a lot of money on it too.

Listening to Christmas songs

It doesn’t necessarily have to be traditional Christmas songs either. Lately I have been absolutely loving Sia’s Christmas album and this one has been on repeat a lot.

Spending time with family

There’s not much of my family left but I do enjoy spending time with those who are still with us. Although the lack of presence from those who have passed away in the most recent years is very noticeable, we still make the most of it and try to keep Christmas a joyous holiday and try not to dwell on the past or think about how it could be.

Christmas food and drinks is so good. Once a year you get to stuff yourself so full you’ll regret it the next morning and it’s wonderful. I always try to not overeat but it happens no matter what I do.

What makes you excited for the holidays?

Have you ever tried to dye your eyebrows?

I sure haven’t, I’m terrified of ever putting anything harmful near my eyes. However, i saw this trend in many articles (mostly about catwalk trends), done with both liquid lipsticks, colored mascaras and eye shadows and I decided I wanted to try it. I’ve read in many places that you can use a shade that matches your hair to dye your brows to make it look softer and more ‘natural’, but I don’t really think that pink or red brows would ever really look natural.. Well, ginger red brows would look natural!

If I was to follow the same logic, I should have just used a black or dark brown pencil, something I do already so it wouldn’t really be too exciting. However, if you’re going to wear a bright wig, or a wig that differs from your natural color, you should probably try to match it. This is often done with cosplay, where the characters have either blue, pink, red or any other colored hair and it would be “natural” for them to have brows in the same shade.

I looked through a whole bunch of pictures and decided on trying three different colors, with three different application methods.

Red

For this one I used two of the liquid lipsticks I have from Makeup Revolution. One was a bright red, and the other was slightly darker. I wanted it to look like the color had a bit of depth. I used an angled brush to apply the color, following the natural shape of my brows. It was a bit messy and I had to clean up the edges a lot with a smaller brush soaked with oil infused micellar water. The red was the first color I tried, I honestly should have saved it for last because it was so difficult to remove. I think it would look nicer if my hair was still as bright red as it was, now it’s orange-y brown.

Blue

For the blue I used a eye shadow pencil. The one I had was from L’Oreal and it was in the shade Ocean Blue. One thing I hadn’t noticed was that it contains a bit of shimmer. It didn’t look bad but I wasn’t expecting it. The pencil is very soft so it felt and looked kind of like a pomade. It wasn’t the worst, but it didn’t feel too good after a while. The blue was also difficult to remove because this eye pencil is very pigmented.

Gold

You wouldn’t have guessed that it was gold, right? My gold obsession lives on and I decided trying to have gold eyebrows would be like the best idea ever. It could maybe have been that if I had a liquid gold product. What I used here was a wet eye shadow brush and golden eyeshadow, the one from the 24k NUDES palette from Maybelline. The color didn’t show up too well on camera but it looked slightly metallic in real life at least. I think this turned out the worst out of the three and I would never try it again..

All in all, I think colored brows would work if they had a purpose, like completing a cosplay costume or for festivals and whatnot!

Have you tried out colored brows before? Is it a trend you could have worn?

If there is one thing that both confuses and intrigues me, it is the trends that beauty gurus pick up on, or create..

I always see articles about new things like “diamond nails”, mermaid this and mermaid that, “holographic” make up and god knows what, and I can’t ever seem to be able to jump on the same hype train as others do.

— But, that doesn’t mean I don’t try to recreate whatever it is, like a year after it was popular. I always let a few months pass by, commenting about how stupid something is, then I just end up thinking like “Screw it, I gotta do it now.” So that is how this series was born, I haven’t said it will be a series yet but there is a lot of things I want to try out. The only requirement for me though is that I would have to just use whatever I own, because I don’t want to have to go out of my way to purchase new make up items, I have so much that I need to use up. It is probably not a lot by others standards, but for me it’s more than I would ever need. ( I guess the Makeup Revolution Storage Chest I purchased is to blame).

Onto this post’s trend

I was just mindlessly googling when I stumbled upon this, seeing very washed out eye looks with dull or pastel colors — or on the other side of the scale, bright teal and glitters, and I thought it looked rather cute. Most of the looks were purely greens or blues, or with a tiny bit of purple or yellow, but the “tutorial” I found made use of pretty much every one of the single pan eye shadows I have (which are like the purple, the blue and the green shades, all from H&M). Here’s what it says:

Mermaid Eyes
The mesmerizingly pretty looks on the fashion runway at Marc Jacobs, Rachel Comey, and Jill Stuart are a brighter, dreamier take on the dark and smoky standard. Here’s how we’re pulling it off: Apply shimmery purple on the inner halves of lids, blue on the outer halves, green just below the eyes, and gold at the inner corners. (Eye primer helps.) Blend with a fluffy shadow brush; liner and mascara optional.

They probably intended for this to be a soft, pastel-ish look, but I can’t help but to go for bold colors whenever I can. I also probably could have blended the colors better but the sort of color block look is something I really enjoy, so it is what it is!

What I did was to first apply the purple shadow, then I took a blue eye shadow stick on the outer corner, trying to make it slightly like a wing, I applied a slightly darker blue eye shadow on top and blended it towards the purple. I then took the green shadow under the eyes, blending it up into the blue to try to further make it look like a wing. And last, but not least I applied the gold shadow in the inner corners of the eyes, trying to follow the “tutorial” as closely as possible.

I think it came out pretty good! Maybe not the same way that the tutorial intended but at least I used the right colors. It could have been softer, could have been more sparkly, could have been better. I guess what matters is that I am happy with it.

I don’t know if I would ever wear this look, maybe to a concert or something similar but definitely not every day! I can understand the appeal of the mermaid look, it’s very beautiful so I guess it’s safe to say that…

This was a total success. √

Monthly favorites: July

♥ Maybelline – Galactic Mauve

This is one of Maybelline’s many beautiful Mauve shades ( I currently own three of them). I wrote a post about it a while ago and you can find it if you click here.

♥ L’Oreal Le Khol Midnight Black Eyeliner

A wonderfully pigmented eyeliner. It doesn’t smudge much and it stays in place all day! I’m really, really happy with how it looks on my eyes. When it’s sharpened it can even draw a beautiful, thin and sharp winged liner.

♥ Makeup Revolution Baked Vivid Highlighter in Peach Lights

This is a beautiful baked highlighter! It looks very natural at first application but it is definitely possible to build it up to being a blinding highlight. It has a peach sheen to it and I love wearing it because it makes me look all glowy and nice.

♥ “Cinder” by Marissa Meyer

You can find my book recommendation here, and it’s also mentioned in this post. This quickly turned out to be the beginning of a love for the whole series. I talk more about it in my “What I read in July” post. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy/YA novels.

♥ PVRIS – Only love (acoustic)

I’m so happy that I was introduced to this band, been listening every day! I think I could just pick any song from their White Noise album to feature here.

♥ PVRIS – Half

So that was my absolute favorites for the month of July! What have you loved this month?
