Archives For Top 5

I feel like I’m doing these posts yearly now, always expressing my love for the darker months of the year. I’m fine with it though, there’s just so much to like about Autumn so it can definitely have more than one post dedicated to it!

  1. Being able to wear cozy sweaters without dying. I love big, comfy sweaters, and the summer months are not exactly ideal for wearing them. The autumn weather however is perfect for it. Sometimes it gets a little warm in the afternoon but I’m willing to look past that because I’m stubborn and just have to wear them anyways.
  2. Being able to light candles earlier in the evening. It’s not as nice to light candles when it’s still bright outside so having darker evenings helps set the mood when you can light candles and have them burning all night. Just remember to put them out at some point, no one wants a fire to happen.
  3. Having so much fresh produce available. I love having fresh cabbage, fresh veggies and whatnot available for making wonderful stews and soups. Autumn is the perfect season for comfort food and all of the fresh veggies makes that an easy task to accomplish.
  4. Crunchy leaves. The child in me still loves the satisfying feeling when you step on a leaf and it crunches beneath your shoes. I don’t think that particular feeling will ever go away, to be honest.
  5. Pumpkin spice. Just to be a basic bitch, pumpkin spice is great! I know it’s mostly cinnamon, and that’s what i love the most about it. I love cinnamon rolls, cinnamon added to hot chocolate, cinnamon added to porridge and lord knows what. If i can have cinnamon with something, I sure as heck will!

What is your favorite season?

I noticed it had been a while since I last did a Top 5 (June 30th, wow!), so I figured it was time for one! I did a post on my favorite lip products last summer (probably one earlier this year too), and it has changed a bit since then so a new one was in order! Feel free to share your favorite products in the comments, I’d really like to read about them ♥

  1. Maybelline – Galactic Mauve LipstickLook at how little I have left of it! I rarely ever finish a lipstick, but I have been using this one almost every day since I purchased it. Luckily I’m still as in love with it now as I was back then. I have two other varieties of mauve shades I have to finish before I’m going to repurchase this, but it will definitely be repurchased in the future.

  2. NYX – Devil’s Food Cake Butter Gloss This is honestly a gloss that I probably never will tire of. It smells so sweet, so good and it feels really comfortable on the lips. It’s not a sticky gloss, it doesn’t last forever but I honestly don’t mind reapplying it. Also, can you tell that I love purple? 😉 If I could, I would wear purple lipsticks/glosses at all times. I initially expected this one to be very dark, since the bottle is exactly that, but it’s not bad at all even though it’s lighter than what I thought.

  3. Makeup Revolution – Lip Euphoria Liquid Lipstick from Ultimate Reds KitOh hey, something that is not purple! This one is more of a dusty rose. It doesn’t dry down matte, but it’s not exactly shiny either. It looks really pretty and it has a fairly good longevity, considering the lip kit it comes in costs around £3. I love using this when I need a more “natural” look.

  4. Australian Gold – 30 spf Lip BalmThis is one of the best smelling lip balms I have owned, apart from any smelling like vanilla. This smells like a minty orange drink and it’s great. I also love that it has spf, I have used this frequently over the summer, even though we haven’t really had any sunny weather. ( I do wear spf during winter too, don’t worry!)

  5. Blistex – Lip Relief CreamA true lifesaver when you have really chapped lips or cold sores. This guy cools down, moisturizes, nourishes, tingles and makes your lips feel so good! It kinda tastes like tooth paste, but I can get past that since it works so well! A little goes a long way with this, you’d end up with white lips if you apply too much.. I speak from experience!

What are your favorites?

  1. How good melons taste! I always try to keep my fridge stocked with various types of melons, preferably watermelon and a variety called Piel de Sapo, they’re even better when they’re chilled! I love that watermelons helps with keeping you staying hydrated too so it’s really a win-win situation to snack on them in the summer heat.
  2. Coconut scented everything! Tropical scents and summer goes together like… well.. I couldn’t think of a good comparison, but a coconut-y tropical scent is like peak summer for me. I have a tropical scented sunscreen and I love that it makes me smell so good instead of that standard sunscreen scent.
  3. A cool breeze on a hot day. Nothing feels better than a cool breeze when you’re feeling really hot. Finally getting a break from the heat when the shade just isn’t enough feels amazing.
  4. Bonfires on the beach. It’s not allowed to have any bonfires in the woods here during the summer so resorting to having it on the beach is a great alternative, honestly. Just sitting there in our beach chairs, having marshmallows, hotdogs, cold beers and whatnot, it’s amazing.
  5. Being able to stay outside overnight without freezing. During autumn and winter, it’s not really possible to stay out during the night at all, it gets way too cold. I love being outside and looking up at the sky, mostly because I live in the countryside and we have little to none light pollution so I get to see a lot of stars.

Just to make it equal, since last Friday was dedicated to female singers, I will dedicate this one to male singers! These can either be solo singers or bands with a male vocalist. The list will be in no particular order since it was hard enough to only pick five out of all the artists and bands I listen to.

  1. Highly Suspect – Johnny Stevens has one of the nicest voices I know of and they perform incredible songs on top of it all. The band has been active since 2009, but I only discovered them a few years ago. I’m really happy that I did though because their songs and their music videos are absolutely amazing. I don’t think I could ever praise them enough. My favorite song is called “Bath Salts”, but I thought I could share this song, since the music video is really nice!
  2. Hurts – I discovered them through the Deep Dark Indie playlist, like I did with many of the female artists on my other list. Hurts is a synth-pop duo from the UK and their vocalist is great. His voice reminds me of many others but it’s still different from the rest too.
  3. Jaymes Young – I used to be such a fan of his music, and suddenly my interest dropped a bit. But I still thing he has one of the most pleasant voices to listen to. I especially used to love his song “Moondust”, one which he also made an acoustic version of.
  4. I See Stars – I guess it’s no surprise anymore that i enjoy clean vocals, so this one is another great addition to the list. It’s not really a band I listen to regularly, but whenever I do I’m always blown away by the vocals.
  5. Blink 182 – Does anyone not like Tom Delonge’s vocals? I mean, I have loved his vocals ever since Blink first started making music and I don’t think I will ever stop! Even though they have had a lot of silly songs, his vocals are still good. Just going to share this song because I still listen to it every day. It also helps that the music video is stunning. I love all 1920-1930’s aesthetic.

What would your top 5 list look like?

I used to have a running top 5 series but I kind of fell out of it because it was so irregular, so I decided I could try to make it a weekly feature instead, trying to post it every Friday! This week, since a lot of blogs I follow do the whole “feminist friday” thing, I thought I could dedicate a post to the women that I listen to pretty much every day, in no really particular order.

  1. Sia – Sia has been with me since some time before Chandelier was released (I think I first heard her singing in David Guetta’s “Titanium”. I love everything she has ever released, and I think her “1000 Forms of fear” is one of my favorite albums of all time. I have never been able to find a live performance of one of my favorite songs, but I’ll share the original here.
  2. Meg Myers – I’m not quite sure how I discovered her, it might have been through the “Deep, Dark Indie” playlist on spotify (which is my absolute favorite btw) but I’m so glad I found her! Her music videos are so unique and I love her style of singing. She wrote on her instagram that she finds it funny that her songs are rather heavy and rock inspired, but she only listens to classical and world music herself. It just shows how diverse people can be. I had a hard time choosing just one song, this one is a bit raunchy, but also visually great.
  3. Neon Hitch – Many years ago, one of my gay, male friends sent me a link saying like “hey this girl is such a hot redhead, I think you’d like her!” I was really skeptical at first because his music taste is way different from mine, but i was very pleasantly surprised! My interested kind of faded over the years but recently I rediscovered her and listened to her new album and I’m in love again. Her album is really well put together and I don’t think I dislike a single song. Her voice is really unique too!
  4. Ruelle – This is another artist I must have discovered on the “Deep, Dark Indie” playlist. She has a lot of heavier, rock-ish songs and I truly enjoy them all. She is labelled as an electro-pop singer but I can’t say I have listened to any electro-pop from her yet.
  5. Baron Bane – This is not a solo singer, but it’s a swedish alternative band fronted by a woman. I also discovered them on the spotify playlist sometime last year when they released their newest album and I instantly fell in love. I’m really hoping they’ll release new songs this year too.

So that was my list! Do you have any female singers in your life that you adore?
