The Aqua Mask

Description: A new generation of face mask combining Pomegranate and Glycerin in a fresh jelly texture. It hydrates to quench skin’s thirst and it rehydrates skin in just 10 minutes, leaving it replumped and silky-smooth. No Parabens.
Immediately; skin looks bouncy, fresher.
Long-lasting effectiveness; skin feels hydrated, suppler and softer.

Directions: Apply on clean and dry skin. Avoid eye and lip areas. Leave on for 10 minutes, then massage in the excess product until completely absorbed or remove excess with a cotton pad.

The initial application of this mask feels slightly cooling, maybe because I’ve stored it in the bathroom cabinet which is a cool place in general. I can feel a slight stinging to the skin, and it doesn’t feel as if it is immediately hydrating the skin but not drying it either. After the ten minutes was up, my skin hadn’t absorbed a lot of it. I was also reminded about the Garnier Moisture+ day cream that I used to use.. It kinda feels like they just put it in a sachet and are trying to pass it off as a mask because it made my skin feel the exact same way, slightly greasy and not hydrated in the way I like.

Would I buy this one again? No. I did not enjoy the day cream and I did not enjoy this mask.

The Juicy Peel Mask

Description: A new generation of face mask combining Lemon Extract and Smoothing Active Glycolic Acid in a jelly texture that illuminates for smooth, radiant skin with a healthy glow. No Parabens.
Immediately; skin looks more refined, luminous, with a healthy glow.
Long-lasting effectiveness; skin tone appears more radiant, smoother and softer.

Directions: Apply on clean and dry skin. Avoid eye and lip areas. Leave on for 5 minutes, then rinse.

I had some issues with this one at first, because in the English directions it said to leave it on for 10 minutes and in the Norwegian one it said 5 minutes, so I opted for the middle ground, 7 and a half because I couldn’t be bothered to check their website. But it was originally supposed to only be on for 5 minutes, tops.

The consistency for this mask was kind of like a lemon jelly, it was almost completely clear and had a slight lemon scent. It was fairly easy to apply, though with it being clear it wasn’t too easy to see where I had applied it or not until I layered some more on the skin. I kept it on the skin for about 7 minutes, since I couldn’t seem to figure out how long I was supposed to have it on and after five minutes it started to sting a bit. My skin didn’t turn too red though, I was expecting it to be worse after I rinsed it off.

This mask really took care of the oil on my face and made my skin feel super smooth – for a day – the day after my skin was twice as oily as normal so it felt like it had just postponed everything for a day.. So because of that, I didn’t like it too much. A temporary fix is not worth it if the aftermath is twice as bad.

Would I repurchase this? No.

The Volcano Mask

Description: A new generation of face mask combining Volcanic rock and Clay in a self-heating clay texture that minimises the appearance of pores for pure, smooth skin. No Parabens.
Immediately: skin appears purified and looks smoother and less shiny.
Long-lasting effectiveness: pores look unclogged and seem less visible. Skin appears refreshed.

Directions: Apply on clean and dry skin. Avoid eye and lip areas. Leave on for 3 minutes, then rinse.

A 3 minute mask? I didn’t really believe a mask could do anything in just three minutes. This one was for pore minimizing so I only applied it on my cheeks, my nose and my chin because I don’t really have too noticeable pores anywhere else. This mask was really, really thick and it felt as if I had found clay outside and just rubbed it on my skin. I thought it would have the same consistency as the L’Oreal clay masks but this was so much thicker.

It says to be self heating but I didn’t notice that in the short three minutes that it was on my face. It was kind of a pain to remove because it is so thick, but I could see that it had reduced my pores a little bit in that time. It also removed all traces of oil on my face but the same happened the day after as with the juicy peel mask, my skin didn’t like it and produced twice as much oil again.

I would use this again just to reduce pores for special occasions but I wouldn’t want to upset my skin this much just for nothing.

Would I repurchase this? Maybe.

Have you tried any of these masks?

Kukuí Oil is a spray designed to combat frizz and dryness, especially for naturally curly hair but you can use this for other hair types as well. Ideally it is supposed to be used on damp hair after a shower but you can also use it on dry hair to tame frizz. I have been loving OGX products for years, and sadly I heard that they are no longer cruelty free but I struggle with parting with the products after relying on them for so long.

How does it work?

Spray it on your hair, massage or brush it in and feel how healthy and soft your hair is after! The first time I used it I sprayed it on damp hair after just using shampoo and it honestly felt like a completely different head of hair. My hair gets very frizzy during the colder months of the year so having something like this is very, very important for me. The spray bottle is not too big either so it’s easy to just put it in your bag and bring it with you wherever you need to go.

The second time I tried this spray I used on dry hair and it worked very similar to how it was in damp hair. What I did notice though is that when you use this on dry hair, be careful not to spray too much close to your scalp on the top of your head because it will make your roots appear and feel greasy faster than usual. That was what the only 1-star review I could find of it said too when I looked at their website, so the general consensus seems to be that it is good! I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking that.

So I would really recommend this if you struggle with your hair feeling dry and frizzy, because it will nourish it and make it feel soft, look shiny and healthy and just improve your hairs health overall. I have tried many hair oils in my life and this is the best one I have found so far! I would totally include a before and after picture of my hair while using this, but my hair is jet black and you can’t really see any individual strands or any proper details in pictures.. Believe me, I tried and I was very unsuccessful.

Have you tried this before? What did you think of it?

ELF Lip Exfoliator review

What is it?

DSC_0056

The ELF lip exfoliator is basically a lip scrub in lipstick form. It’s in a sleek, matte black packaging and it is conveniently shaped like a lip stick for easy application. It is a mixture of oils and butters and it has a grainy texture. Since it contains butters it will melt at body temperature and it will create a slip when you use it to make it easier and more gentle on your lips. Using it is quite simple, all you have to is to apply it to your lips with small circular movements for better exfoliation and then wipe it off afterwards. It’s always a good idea to apply a lip balm after you exfoliate your lips too, just to make them feel more nourished.

I have used the scrub many times now (it doesn’t look as pretty as in the picture anymore) but it works really well for me. As you can see in the pictures below, on the top my lips look uneven in color because they’re dry. On the bottom is after exfoliation, before applying a lip balm and the color has evened out because the exfoliation has brought more blood to them and made them more smooth. There’s no dry lines anymore and they generally feel a lot healthier.

I’m very impressed with how well it works, how it smells and how it tastes. You’re not really supposed to taste it but I just had to. It should be somewhat safe so I don’t think it will hurt me in any way to have done that. I tend to leave it on my lips for a little bit to let the oils and butters do its work before wiping it off, but I don’t think everyone would enjoy that feeling.

However, if you don’t have too sensitive lips and want a scrub that is less messy than a traditional sugar scrub, plus it’s affordable ($3 on their website), I would recommend this. If it doesn’t work for you, at least you haven’t spent loads of money on it.

Have you tried this scrub/exfoliator before? What did you think of it?

♥ Aloe Vera

PicMonkey Collage

The effect and benefit of this Aloe mask from Tonymoly is all in the name, it’s20160807_153709 very moisturizing! If my skin could exhale a sigh in relief, it would probably do so when i put on this mask. It has a slightly cold feeling at first but that is great for reducing swelling and whatnot.

It smells really fresh and clean and it is a real treat to wear it for the required 20 to 30 minutes, the same amount of time as for their Tea tree mask. The mask is slightly too big, but that has become such a usual occurrence that it doesn’t really phase me anymore until i look at the pictures. It makes me laugh though!

After the allotted time was up, (i had it on for the full thirty minutes), i massaged most of the excess serum into the skin on my face and on my neck. My skin really felt vitalized and refreshed once it had all been absorbed so i would definitely recommend this mask if your skin just needs that extra moisture and you don’t want to spend all that much on high end masks.

My only regret with this mask was only buying a few, because now i’m all out. Luckily, i have a lot of other masks to try out while i wait for my paycheck so i can put it a new order.

Pros:

  • Has a cooling effect at first until the sheet adapts to your body temperature.
  • Very moisturizing and helps if you need a little boost.
  • The longer wear time helps the serum absorb more.

Cons:

  • Just the size, really, nothing else to say!

♥ Tea Tree

PicMonkey Collage

One of my favorite products to be used in any kind of skin care is Tea tree oil. It has great antiseptic and cleansing properties and my skin loves it so much. So when i saw this mask, i was overjoyed. There is a lot of serum in the pack and i actually managed to spill some onto my shirt because it started dripping from the sheet mask. 20160727_131605

I think this was the largest sheet i have used yet, so it made my face look all droopy with it
on, but it was okay, i didn’t feel any discomfort at all. The mask had a very pleasant smell too so that was a big plus! On the instructions, it said to leave the mask on for 20-30 minutes, ten minutes longer than most masks I have tried.

I kept it on for the full amount of time and i couldn’t really tell any difference from the 20 minute masks i usually use. My skin felt just as wet and sticky as usual so the extra time doesn’t really make the skin absorb any more of the serum.

Compared to sheet masks I have used in the past, this serum was easier to massage into the skin and i didn’t have to wipe off as much as i usually do. My skin did feel soothed and soft, so i was pleased with the result. I will most likely repurchase this.

Pros:

  • A lot of serum in the package so you know you wont get cheated.
  • The mask is easy to unfold, easy to apply.
  • It stays in place the whole time, even over your lips.

Cons:

  • It was too big for my face so a lot got stuck in my hair
  • If it gets on your clothes it can make the fabric feel a bit weird

♥ Cucumber & Aloe

20160812_163105

To be quite honest, i didn’t even know that H&M had any skincare like this until i randomly found them on their website. I live too far to be bothered to go into town so I haven’t been in the actual store in a while so they might have it there. Anyways! Their masks come in these cute little plastic containers, similar to coffee capsules and they contain 10 ml (0.3 fl oz). It doesn’t sound like much, but you can honestly get up to three uses if you leave the lid on. I have use number 3 on my face as i write this and i am very pleased with it.

20160812_16325420160815_191546

As you can see on the left, below, you only need a thin layer of the mask, just enough for your skin to look dewy and nice. I put too much on my cheeks the first time so it refused to dry properly, but i learned my lesson the second time around. You’re supposed to keep it on for 15-20 minutes, depending on how long you feel it would take for it to dry. I left mine on for a full 20, and it dried like a second layer of skin, as shown on the right.

PicMonkey Collage

The peel off process was simple, and there was not much left over after i was done. I cleansed my face with some toner water just in case, and i was very happy with the result. My skin felt refreshed and it left behind a slight scent of cucumber.

So all in all, i would recommend this mask a lot, i have yet to try their Tea tree peel off mask, but i’m really looking forward to it!

Pros:

  • A lightweight, refreshing mask
  • Gentle scent of cucumber
  • applies easily
  • peels off usually in one go
  • Can be enough for up to three uses

Cons:

  • A bit hard to get off if you accidentally layer it on too thick
  • The lid isn’t technically resealable so you might end up spilling it if you’re not careful.

♥ Manuka Honey

20161215_122722

My local H&M used to only have a few of these masks available, so i was pleasantly surprised when i found that they finally had stocked up on more of their face masks. They come in cute little pots, and for the peel-off masks, they often contain enough to apply it twice. This one in particular contains honey, and oh boy, can you smell it!

20161215_122934

It is a vivid, orange colour and it is a bit thicker than the previous peel off mask i tried from them. It’s almost like you could feel the honey in it when you applied it. I just used my fingers to rub a moderately thin layer all over my face, avoiding the eyes and lips. I did get a tiny bit stuck in my eyebrow and it was a bitch to get out again. Also, the mask looks really yellow on your face so it kinda looks like you have some20161215_123444 sort of skin disease.

I left it on to dry, and it took so long that i forgot to even check what time it was when i peeled it all off. It came off in one piece so that was good! I felt a slight itch when i had it on but i didn’t think it was anything serious. After toning my skin i noticed i had really dark red marks on the skin beneath my eyes that actually felt really warm and inflamed. There was no indication that i was allergic to any of the ingredients and still it happened.. So it didn’t help my skin much, it just made me in need of a moisturizer to calm down my skin.

Pros:

  • Easy to apply
  • Smells of honey
  • Comes off in one piece if you make sure to connect everything
  • Doesn’t hurt that much when you peel it

Cons:

  • Takes quite a while to dry
  • Made my skin really irritated so be careful if you have sensitive skin.

♥ Raspberry Leaf

20161219_190938

After the disaster that was the Manuka Honey peel off mask, I didn’t really have any good expectations about this one at all. This is a mask made for combination skin so it’s supposed to nourish and reduce oil at the same time. When you open the packaging it reveals a raspberry colored mask (big surprise, right?) and it smells just like raspberries too.

20161219_191020

It was not as thick as the honey mask and the color lightened a bi20161219_191511t, only showing a pink tint on the skin as you applied it. It was a bit more runny so i could get two used out of it because if i used too much at once, it would start dripping off of my face, and no one wants that to happen.

There is not really any set time limit for masks like these since they basically just have to dry up complete so that you could peel them off. This one took about twenty minutes to dry completely, though i found it to be slightly damp on my cheeks even if the rest of the face was dry. I’m not sure why that happened but it took another five minutes for it to become stiff like the rest. Once i peeled it off my skin felt nourished and refreshed, and it didn’t stick to any of the hairs on my face to make it painful at all.

I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it worked better than the honey mask and i would definitely repurchase this to use it again. The lovely scent is a plus too, it didn’t get overwhelming and it was just the right amount of raspberries. I would recommend this to anyone that has combination skin and is in need for a refreshing experience.

Pros:

  • Easy to apply
  • Not too thick
  • Smells really nice
  • Doesn’t pull on the hairs when you peel it off

Cons:

  • Dries a bit unevenly
  • A bit too runny if you apply too much
