When you buy accidental dupes

As you can see on the tubes, they’re very different in color there!

I have always loved a slightly purple lip color, and I have been using the Wet ‘n Wild Megaslicks lip gloss in “That’s My Jam” for quite a while. Recently I decided I should try a different shade just to shake things up a bit so I decided to Purchase a Nyx Butter Gloss in “Devil’s Food Cake”, expecting it to be in the brown-ish range of shades since the name is literally a type of chocolate cake.

You can see the warm tone / cool tone difference here.

I was very surprised when I first tried it though because it turns out it is almost identical to the one I was already using so there wasn’t much of a change at all! The Nyx Butter Gloss is a tiny bit warmer than the Wet ‘n Wild Megaslicks gloss but that is the only difference I can see, on the lips they look very similar. In the picture below, I have used the Wet ‘n Wild gloss on the top half and the Nyx Buter Gloss on the bottom half. I don’t know if staring at it has made me color blind but I can’t really tell them apart. The shadow on my upper lip kind of gives the color a more warm shade to make them even more similar.

I guess ending up with a better smelling dupe isn’t the worst thing in the world, but I admit I was feeling a bit upset because I pretty much ended up buying the same exact product for a few dollars more. I guess the scent makes up for it, plus it seems like the Nyx gloss stays on the lips for longer so I will probably end up using it more than the other. Next time I will triple check the colors before purchasing anything online, or try to find a store here that sells the brands. The latter is probably not likely to happen since Norway seems to have a preference for Maybelline, L’oreal and Max Factor, so online shopping is usually what I have to go for since there are no other options.

Have you ever ended up purchasing an accidental dupe? How did you feel about it?

I do it all the time; I like to think of it as having a type/knowing what I like. It doesn’t bother me, there are generally tiny differences between them which I appreciate, not that anyone else can tell a difference. Long as the product in itself isn’t terrible, I don’t mind one bit.

…although. It is probably a waste of resources and a behavior that should be avoided…

I dont think its all that bad, it just sucks that I was expecting something different and ended up with pretty much the same thing 😦 But if it’s something you like to do then its not bad at all!

Haha I do it all the time, especially with nail polishes! It’s just that I love a particular shade soo much that accidentally get more than one 😀

NYX Devil’s Food Cake is one of my fav lip glosses. ♥︎

I’ve done with with 3 colors instead of 2 😂 a Sephora matte liquid lipstick in cherry blossom, kvd mother, and jeffree star doll parts… ooops
