Maybelline The ROCK Nudes Palette Review

I don’t purchase palettes very often but when I do I either absolutely love them, or I feel kind of “meh” about them. This is sadly the latter, though I did love the original NUDES palette, and the Blushed NUDES that Maybelline released prior to this one. They now have a 24k palette too but I haven’t been wanting to invest in it after being disappointed by this one.

At first glance, I’m really excited to see both a blue shade and a gold shade, but as I’m wary of those shades from previous experiences, I was not expecting too much. I think it was my low expectations that kind of made this just a “meh” instead of “hate it” because the shades don’t transfer well to the lids at all. I tried using a packing brush while it was dry, while it was wet, with some fixing spray and I even tried with a sponge applicator because apparently they transfer more pigment but there still wasn’t much showing up. You can also see how chalky the whole palette is. Just look at the mess I left behind after I finished doing the swatches! I had to use a q-tip to clean it off between the pans because I can’t stand messy things at all, plus having the lighter shades contaminated by the darker shades is not something I would want to happen.

Look at that mess!

In the swatches below you can see that the blue shade and the gold shade don’t really keep their shades at all. The blue one looks more dark grey and the gold one just looks flat and not metallic at all. The lighter shades and the purple shade looks great though! They also transferred well and actually showed up on the lid. The two black ones, one glittery and one matte did not perform well and they were very patchy. There was also a ton of glitter fallout that I didn’t enjoy. I looked at the Maybelline website to see how they used the colors, and they showed an eye look with the blue shade that was very metallic and impressive, but they must have mixed it with an eye gloss because it does not look like that whatsoever.

So all in all, I was very disappointed with this palette, which sucks because Maybelline is the most accessible brand for me and I have loved the previous palettes so much. Maybelline is the only brand who has a display at my local grocery store so I always see news from them first. I’m hesitant to try any newer palettes and shadows from them now because it kind of feels like they have changed the formula and it sucks because it was great before. It is very affordable though, retailing for $11.99 on their web site but would it be worth it when the palette is bad to begin with? I don’t really think so.

Have you tried Maybelline’s NUDES palettes before? What do you think of them?

I used to have The Blushed Nudes and had the same problems with kick back and how patchy they were on the eye. Such a shame as the colours are lovely
